You can make a difference
It's easy to fall into the trap of believing we do not make any difference in the lives of others. We work and wonder if anything we say or do makes a difference in the lives of others. During such times, we can find encouragement by reading the following story told by Babe Ruth.
"Most people who really have counted in my life were never famous. Nobody ever heard of them except those who knew them and loved them. I especially recall an old minister I once knew whose hair was white and whose face shone. I have written my name on thousands of baseballs in my life. The old minister wrote his name on just a few simple hearts. But how I envy him. He was not trying to please himself. Fame never came his way. I am listed as a famous home run hitter, yet beside the obscure minister who was so good and wise, I have never gotten to first base."
You don't have to be to be a great ball player or do some great act that brings you fame to be make a difference in someone's life.
I remember a lady that as far as I know, never made it to the papers, never wrote great books, or anything that the world knew of. She was just a humble lady that loved God with all her heart. But to me she had the greatest influence that anyone can have. She was my grandmother. I can recall the story's that she would tell of her childhood and how God was a major part of her life. She was well in years and in a wheel chair. She thought that she was to old and feeble to make a difference in anyone's life. I can remember her saying, "Why doesn’t God just take me home, I am no good to anyone." But oh the difference that she made in my life. She shared with me stories and words that I would never forget. But you see it was not just the words and the stories, it was also her actions. She lived what she told. She never knew how much of a difference in my life that she made. I never heard her secret prayers, her hopes and her dreams for her grandchildren. No one else probably heard those secret desires in her heart. Oh my friends what a difference she made in this little preachers heart. One day when I get to heaven, I want to see my Jesus that died on the cross for me, and saved my soul back in 1983. But then I want to see Annie B. and thank her for making a difference in my life.
Friends, my desire and prayer to God has been that I could make a difference in other peoples life's as she did in mine. There might not be to many things that you and I can do that will make us famous, but we can make a difference. God bless you is our prayer.
