Witnessing
A church deacon, who was a barber, was feeling guilty because he had never witnessed for the Lord. One day a man came into his shop and asked for a shave.
The barber put him in a chair and lathered his face. He thought this would be the perfect time to witness to the customer. Nervously he asked, "S-S-Sir, are you r-r-ready to m-meet the L-L-Lord?"
The man opened his eyes wide, and saw the barber holding the razor with a shaking hand. He jumped out of his chair and took off running down the street with the hair cloth flapping in the wind.

Obviously this was not the best way to go about witnessing for the Lord. This man had a good desire, but just went about it in the wrong way. Many today have good desires but go about witnessing in the wrong way. I use to work with a man that would witness to about anyone and about anytime, which was good, but he would seem to make some very angry because he would just blurt out that they were lost and how they was going to die without God. These things were true, but I believe that there is a better way of putting some things. The Bible tells us that we need to be able to relate to people. The greatest illustration that we have is the shepherd and the sheep. The shepherd leads his sheep to water, he does not drive them. They follow him because they trust him. It is the same with dealing with people, they have to trust us before they will listen to us. We can not drive people to church, we have to lead them. Jesus is the shepherd of our souls, he does not make us do anything. The bible tells us that he leads us to living waters. Re 7:17 For the Lamb which is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them unto living fountains of waters: and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes. This is the example that Jesus has set for us. We are to lead people. Also remember that we can not lead others if we are not walking in the right direction! But that is another sermon.

So please remember that it is so important to share the gospel to a lost and dying world, but make sure you lead them and not drive them. Jesus tells us if we try to drive the sheep, they will scatter. God bless your day is my prayer. Come visit us at Monterey Free Will Baptist Church and help us lead others to Christ.
