Holding them up

I would like to talk to you on the subject of support. The Bible tells us in Ac 20:35 I have shewed you all things, how that so labouring ye ought to support the weak, and to remember the words of the Lord Jesus, how he said, It is more blessed to give than to receive.

There are so many people that need our support and encouragement. One that I want to focus on today is our troops in harms way and there families. Whether we agree on if we should be in this war today is not the issue. The issue is, we are there. Our troops are there and they need our prayers and support. They need to hear that all of America is praying for and supporting them.

This past Sunday our church held our troops high in remembrance and support with the choir singing beautiful songs of patriotism and poems. Closing with the song, "I am proud to be an American" With a great applause of all supporting our troops and nation. It was a heart moving experience to say the least.

Let me say today that I am proud to be an American, I am proud to live in the land of the free. I am so thankful to all that have fought and many died, so I could have this freedom! I am proud today to say that in God I still trust. Whether some people like it or not, this country was founded on the principles of God. And God has greatly blessed our country. The Bible is very clear in warning all nations. We are told in Ps 9:17 The wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God.

As far as I am concerned, God will stay in the pledge of Allegiance! Too many have fought and died for the Allegiance to our flag. The Allegiance to the flag was written to mean "One Nation Under God."

Today it is time not to forget, but to remember. Remember how God has greatly blessed us. Remember our Veterans. And continue to remember our troops. To Support them and hold them up in prayer.

Our country needs to be reminded of this. Our Troops need all the support that we can give them.

Chuck Swindoll says that in the Marines he was taught you should dig a hole big enough for two when preparing for combat. There's nothing quite like fighting a battle all alone. There's something strengthening about having a buddy with you that keeps you from panic. We all need someone to lean on. We all need another's show of support. We all need to let our troops know that they are not alone, we are behind them.

Professional speaker Joe Larson once said, "My friends didn't believe that I could become a successful speaker. So I did something about it. I went out and found me some new friends!" There's some wisdom there. Many of us can think of times when encouragement from a friend made all the difference in the world. Especially when that friend was a person of deep spirituality.

Again some may not agree with the issues, but one thing we must agree on is prayer and support of those that are a long way from home. God bless our troops.
