Get them while they are small.
An old
man who'd lived all his life back up in the hills came to visit a childhood
friend. Now he'd never laid eyes on a
train or the iron rails on which they run.
Standing in the middle of the tracks one day,
he heard a distant whistle... WOOOO--ooo---OOOOO! but didn't have a clue as to what it meant or his impending
danger.
Predictably, the old boy is hit -- fortunately
it's just a side swipe, and he's thrown, head over heels off the tracks, get's
off with minor internal injuries, a few broken bones, and some bruises.
After weeks in the hospital recovering, he's
at a friend's place for dinner one evening. Standing in the kitchen, he
hears the rising whistle of the family tea kettle wooOOO...
Springing
into action, he grabs a rolling pin and mercilessly bashes and smashes the once
merry kettle into a useless, shapeless hunk of copper.
His
friend, hearing the fuss, rushes into the kitchen, sees what's happened and
asks his friend, "Why'd you wreck our lovely tea kettle?"
The mountain man replies: "Man, you gotta kill these things when they're small."
This
is how sin is, we have to take care of it quickly and not let it lay around and grow in our lives.
The
bible tells us in 1Jo 1:9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
God has given us a way to take care of these problems called sin. But many
times we choose to ignore them instead of confessing them. If we do not bring
our sins to the Lord to be forgiven and allow them to go unconfessed, they can
grow and cause a lot of problems. Unconfessed sin leads to spiritual coldness.
Isa 59:2 But your iniquities have separated between you
and your God, and your sins have hid his face from you, that he will not hear.
There
is no reason to allow sin to continue in our lives, God has made a way for us
to bring them to him. "He is faithful and just." Even those sins that we may think are small, still need to be forgiven. If it is a small white
lie, it needs to be taken care of. Maybe a lost temper or a bad thought about
someone also needs to be brought to the Lord. Friend we need to get them taken
care of, whether small or large. Ro 6:12 Let
not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the
lusts thereof.
We
should ask the Lords forgiveness everyday. God bless you is our prayer. Today
if you have any leftover sins from last year, like ill feelings, bitterness,
anger or what ever it may be, bring them to the Lord and begin the New Year
walking in Gods blessings.
